Why Medical Detox Comes First
Recovery is too important to risk doing alone. Safely stepping off alcohol or drugs requires a medical detox before most people can enter residential rehab or outpatient treatment.
Patients begin detox at our sister facility here in Missouri, where they receive compassionate, medically supervised care in a modern inpatient setting. The program provides 24/7 monitoring, licensed clinical support, and decades of combined experience in addiction medicine.
Once detox is complete, patients transition to Paradigm Recovery Centers to continue their recovery with a stable, safe foundation.

FAQ About Medical Detox
Can we just drive in to detox?
Sorry, Paradigm and it’s sister detox program cannot accept walk-in admissions. Every admission starts with a confidential pre-screening call to assess clinical needs, confirm insurance or payment, and arrange a safe, compassionate intake.
This helps ensure our program is clinically appropriate and prepares our team to welcome you with the care you deserve.
No exceptions can be made. In case of an emergency such as an overdose, please call 911 immediately. We deeply appreciate your understanding and cooperation.
How do I know if I need detox?
If you have daily use, feel physically ill when you stop, or notice withdrawal symptoms, like shakiness, sweating, nausea, severe anxiety, or sleep disruption, you may need medical detox.
Some withdrawals (alcohol, benzodiazepines, barbiturates) can be dangerous or even deadly, so do not try to quit cold turkey! If you’re unsure, call for a private phone assessment; ideally seek detox before full withdrawal begins.
What if someone needs detox but refuses to go?
This is heartbreaking but common. Compassionate confrontation, known as a family-led intervention, can be helpful, and sometimes necessary. You might consider enlisting the support of a professional interventionist to guide this process. You’re not alone, and we’re here to provide resources that support both your loved one and your family.
What substances require medical detox?
Paradigm’s partner program offers medically supervised detox for alcohol, opioids (including fentanyl and heroin), benzodiazepines (like Xanax or Ativan), stimulants (such as cocaine and meth), and other substances depending on individual needs. Detox can be complex. Let us help you figure out the safest path forward.
What happens during medical detox?
Medical detox includes 24/7 medical monitoring, comfort-focused withdrawal management, and emotional support. We prioritize your safety while helping your body begin recovery. Once stabilized, you’ll have a personalized treatment plan designed just for you.
How long does detox take?
Detox time varies greatly depending on the substances used, quantity, length of use and the patient’s age and health, as well as other factors.
Medical detox usually takes at least 4 days and can take as long as 14 days or more, but it varies widely. Every experience is different, but the clinical team will keep you informed and supported every step of the way.
