Using Insurance to Pay for Drug and Alcohol Rehab in Missouri
For most people, insurance is the simplest and most cost-effective way to pay for addiction treatment.
Most private insurance plans in the U.S. provide coverage for:
- Detox
- Residential treatment
- Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP)
- Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP)
Paradigm Recovery Centers works with most major private insurance providers to help make care more accessible for Missouri families.
How Much of the Cost of Rehab Does Insurance Cover?
How much of your treatment is covered by health insurance depends on a range of factors. They include everything from how much treatment you need to how your plan is structured (i.e. deductible, co-insurance and out-of-pocket maximums).
Some factors in how much of your treatment your insurance will pay for:
- Your insurance provider and plan
- Deductibles or out-of-pocket costs
- Medical necessity requirements
- The level of care recommended
The best way to get a clearer idea of what your share of the bill might look like is to ask our admissions team for a Verification of Benefits (VOB).
Insurance verification at Paradigm Recovery Centers is confidential and does not commit you to go to treatment here. It just gives you more information to help you make a smart decision about treatment.
Your employer and family members will not be notified without your permission. Getting your insurance checked only takes about an hour and can give you the peace of mind of knowing what to expect.
What If You Do Not Have Private Health Insurance?
Not having private insurance through an employer or the Healthcare Marketplace does not necessarily mean drug and alcohol rehab is out of reach.
Many people rely on other options, including MO HealthNet (Medicaid), financial help from family or friends, payment plans, or medical financing depending on circumstances.
If you or your loved one cannot come to our treatment center for financial reasons or a lack of coverage, Paradigm Recovery Centers will provide you with guidance or referrals to help ensure you find the help you deserve.
Using MO HealthNet (Medicaid) for Addiction Treatment
While Paradigm Recovery Centers cannot accept MO HealthNet at this time, some addiction treatment programs in Missouri may accept (Missouri Medicaid) or offer services based on financial need.
MO HealthNet may help cover certain behavioral health and substance use treatment services for eligible individuals, depending on coverage, medical necessity, and program availability.
In some situations, people without private insurance may also qualify for:
- State-funded treatment services
- Sliding-scale payment programs based on income
- Community behavioral health support services
- Substance use treatment programs supported through public funding
For people exploring treatment options through Missouri Medicaid or lower-cost services, state and federal behavioral health resources may help explain available support and eligibility requirements.
People who think they may qualify for MO HealthNet can typically apply through Missouri’s Medicaid enrollment process or get guidance through local social services departments and behavioral health organizations.
Once enrolled, individuals may be able to contact participating treatment providers or behavioral health programs to better understand what addiction treatment services, referrals, or levels of care may be covered through their plan.

Can Family or Loved Ones Help Pay for Treatment?
For some, financial support for addiction treatment comes from family members, partners, or trusted loved ones. We’ve seen many people enter rehab with some help from family in paying their insurance deductible, or self-paying for treatment.
Because addiction affects entire families, loved ones sometimes choose to help cover treatment costs when possible or contribute to part of care.
If you don’t have insurance, or are worried about paying your deductible, don’t let temporary discomfort over asking for help from loved ones stop you from getting the help you need. You’re always welcome to call us for advice in approaching the conversation with your loved one.
Are Medical Loans or Financing Available for Addiction Treatment?
Yes, there are medical loan companies which will lend money for rehab. Addiction care is medical treatment, just like surgery or physical therapy and some medical loan companies will lend you money for it.
Medical lenders that will finance drug and alcohol rehab in Missouri include:
- My Treatment Lender:
- Prosper Healthcare Lending
- M-Lend Financial Services
A specialized medical loan company isn’t your only option. You may also qualify for a personal loan that you can use to cover some or all of your addiction treatment costs. Ask your bank or credit union for more information.
Some treatment centers, especially non-profit or state-funded rehabs, offer payment plans or charge on a sliding scale based on your income.
The High Price of Delaying Drug and Alcohol Treatment
Unfortunately many people postpone addiction treatment out of fear that their insurance won’t cover it, or because of money concerns
But… It’s important to think about the costs of waiting to go to rehab (or not going at all). Addiction impacts nearly every area of life sooner or later. Health issues due to untreated addiction, like alcoholic cirrhosis, hepatitis, heart attack, stroke or overdose can end up costing you more than just money.
Whatever your circumstances may be, there is a path forward for you or your loved one to get treatment for substance abuse. Whatever you do, don’t give up. You deserve a life without the burden of addiction.
